I've decided to go for a JD 4300 w/ a 420 loader and HSD. I'm about 5hrs from the Canadian border so decided to check w/ JD dealers up North. Looks like the one I want is at least $1,000 less in Canada w/ an exchange rate of 1.49, i.e. $16,590 w/ loader and HSD. Question is, would there be any downsides to making the purchase in Canada and dragging it back home to the good old US of A?

You will pay an import tarif, could be fairly large. I would check on that before you purchase. ....

I am also buying a 4300 and looked into Canada because I live close to the border, but when price shopping i didn't come up with that much savings.Not enough anyway to make it worth the hassle. One dealer did tell me that he could have a new tractor shipped to a dealer in the states right fromthe factory and beating the cost at the border, but impliments were a problem,loader, mid mount mower, etc. ....

You save $1000 for 10 hours of driving? 5 hours to and 5 hours from. Potential hassels at the border, potential service problems down the road, ect. What is your time, gas or fuel, meals, worth? I think that is the worst $1000 you'll save. Whatever you decide good luck. Glenn ....

This reminds me what I read on the kubota message board. People will drive hundreds of miles to save a few bucks. Traveling all over creation to find the best deal. Then they have a warranty problem and the crying begins. Stick to the closest most repartible dealer. Even if you lose a thousand bucks in the process. I guarantee it you will save in the long-run. ....

I bought a NH 1925 Boomer last May. Could have saved well over a $1,000, plus no 6.5% sales tax by buying at Ritchie Tractor, instead of one of many local dealers in the Twin Cities area. Local service was the main point for me in dealing locally, espcaially with a major purchase. The Boomer was recalled two months ago for a minor problem, NH communication said that local dealer would fix, but that there may be a mileage charge for their mechanics (dealer is over 40 miles away). Dealer corrected the problem, at my convenience with no charge whatsoever. What is your time worth if there is a problem? I was told by another small equipment dealer (that does not sell compacts) prior to my making the decision that it is getting increasingly difficult (but not impossible) to get warranty service from a non-selling dealer. Anyway, something to think about. Don't want to make a $14,000+ mistake. ....

I just bought a JD345 in Canada. Saved money on the initial purchase plusgot back my taxes. As for the border, as long as the tractor is made in US/Canadathere is no problem. I didn't even have to show my receipt as I was waved through. ....

All warranty work for JD is billed back to the manufacturer. That includes parts and labor. I don't know any other Manuf. that does'nt do it this way????? Tractors that is. ....

I live 10 miles away from an auction yard, every month they have a auction of farn equipment. At the last sale about 75% of the tractors sold went to the U.S. Some of the local dealers sell brand new or close to new tractors there. There are at least two more yards near me that do the same type of thing. I'm not saying it's good or bad I just saying what happens here. ....
